Over the years, Jesus has gently pulled back the curtain on some heavy, burden-wrapped mindsets I didn’t even know I was carrying—like perfectionism, the pressure to perform, fear of failure, and the need to control every outcome.
It’s kind of like David shedding Saul’s armor to face Goliath. (1 Samuel 17:39-40) That armor might’ve looked “holy,” but it didn’t fit him. And honestly? A lot of the religious noise we’ve picked up doesn’t fit us either. 🛡️
That religious noise is like a toxic playlist stuck on repeat:
🎧 "You have to suffer to make God happy."
🎧 "Miracles are for spiritual VIPs."
🎧 "Only church stuff counts as spiritual."
🎧 "Mess up? You’re off God’s team."
🎧 "You better stay far from the world to stay holy."
🎧 "God’s love depends on perfect rule-following."
🎧 "If ministry’s hard, you must be doing something wrong."
🎧 "You can’t trust your feelings or spiritual experiences—they’ll deceive you."
🎧 "Self-care, self-discovery... selfish."
🎧 "Grace is for those who earn it."
😩 EXHAUSTING, right?
Being brutally honest... I've believed all of these.
I used to think God’s voice was laced with guilt… like He was the one holding me back or pointing out every flaw. But really? It was religious lies like these doing the damage. 😳
That’s why the emotional healing journey God took me on changed everything. He started to show me He’s not a slave-driver. He’s my Advocate.
The lies above? They shrink and distort who God actually is. And when we let them shape our view of Him, we drift from the real gospel—the one Jesus came to demonstrate. 💛
When Grace Took the Mic from Religion
The Pharisees thought they were protecting God’s truth, but they completely missed His heart. They memorized the law but overlooked the Love it pointed to.
Jesus showed up, full of grace and truth, and flipped the script—not to shame them, but to reveal what the Father actually looks like.
They clung to performance and appearances. Jesus brought presence and power.
They obsessed over rules. Jesus prioritized relationship.
They were so focused on being “right,” they couldn’t recognize the Righteous One standing in front of them.
If we’re not careful, we can fall into the same trap—valuing religious habits over real connection, and missing the joy, freedom, and intimacy God’s offering us.
Jesus came to fulfill the law—filling it full—and demonstrate the Father’s heart. Every miracle, teaching, and moment of compassion pulled back the veil and said, This is who God really is.
Let's crank the volume on the truth Jesus lived and died to reveal:
🔓 God’s Joy in Your Joy — Psalm 16:11 says, “In Your presence is fullness of joy.” He’s not handing out hardships like "tough lessons." He’s a loving Father who delights in filling your life with peace and joy (Rom 14:17; Ps 103:2-5). When you’re hurting, He doesn’t throw you stones and snakes—He brings comfort, healing, and renewal. Hard times aren’t punishments—they’re invitations to lean into Him, pray, and grow stronger (James 5:13). And joy isn't just a nice bonus. It’s your strength. Even Jesus endured the cross because of joy (Hebrews 12:2). So embrace more of it!
✨ Miracles Are for Everyone — Jesus never held back a miracle from anyone who came to Him with faith. Whether or not you feel "worthy," He's ready to heal, restore, and set you free. Salvation—sozo in Greek—isn’t just about heaven later. It’s healing, deliverance, and wholeness right now. And Jesus even said we’d do greater works than He did (John 14:12). Miracles aren’t rare. They’re part of who He is—and He loves to move through you, every day. 💥
💖 Everything You Do Matters — The coffee you gave your coworker counts to God. From leading worship to changing diapers, it’s all sacred. Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” In God’s kingdom, every act of love is treasure. You were made from Love, so living in love is your true design.
🧩 Perfection Not Required — Paul said, “His power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Our flaws don’t disqualify us—they invite God’s glory to shine. You have full permission to let go of your 'polished self' and be authentically YOU! Experience the grace that surrounds you.
🌎 Engage the World — Jesus didn’t avoid the broken places—He moved toward them with unbiased compassion. He told us to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13–16), not to hide out in Christian bubbles. We flourish in community and connection!
👐 True Humility Looks Like This — Trying to track your spiritual “progress”? Girl, take a breath. In the kingdom, greatness is measured by love and service (Cue: Jesus washing feet while his friends were asking for gold stars.) When we stop competing and start lifting each other up, there’s always enough spotlight for everyone. Kindness is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (so you've always got access to it), and it carries power to melt walls and move mountains. Even when people oppose you, Jesus says—bless them anyway. That kind of radical love is the real mic drop. 💥
🌱 Challenges Build You — Trials aren’t punishments or failures—they’re training grounds and miracle territory. James 1:2–4 tells us to “count it all joy” when trials come because they build endurance and help us become strong and complete!
💬 God Welcomes Emotions — Just read the Psalms. Your emotions aren’t obstacles to faith—they’re invitations. He uses our feelings to connect and to prove the Spirit’s work in our lives (Galatians 5:22) Lean into moments when God speaks through your feelings and spiritual encounters, even if it feels new and different.
🌐 Grace Has No Borders — Grace doesn’t stop at church walls or follow denominational rules. Jesus welcomed everyone to the table—no exclusions. While some leaders got caught up in rules and opposed His nature, Jesus redefined belonging. He ate with outsiders, loved the overlooked, and let kindness do the heavy lifting. Romans 2:4 says it’s God’s kindness that leads us to repentance—not guilt trips. So let kindness fuel heart-change and generosity foster peace.
If you’re ready to start breaking free from religious mindsets, here’s how to hear God’s voice and walk in grace:
Take heart, my friend! His love is your solid ground, and His voice is always calling you closer. You’re not striving for God’s love—you’re standing in it.
Drenched in grace,
Kelsi
