📊 What’s holding you back from knowing God’s Will? (Survey Insights + Real Stories)

Updated: Mar 11

Have you ever felt the ache to know what God’s purpose for your life truly is?

Like there’s this deeper calling, but it’s clouded by all the uncertainty, noise, and busyness of daily life.

I’ve been there too—feeling completely lost in the puzzle of my own life, wondering why understanding my purpose had to feel so complicated.

As a woman, you’ve probably sensed there’s more for your life… you just don’t know what it is.

If you’ve ever asked yourself why God’s will for your life feels so hard to grasp, you’re in good company.

Recently, I reached out to over 100 amazing Jesus-loving women and asked them what holds them back from knowing God’s will.

Here’s what they shared with me.

Survey Says...

Survey results from 100 Christian women about what holds them back from knowing God’s will—top answers include fear, busyness, and difficulty hearing God’s voice.

These three—hearing God’s voice, fear, and busyness—are the greatest obstacles keeping women from knowing God’s specific will for their lives.

Do any of these ring a bell with you? 🙋🏼‍♀️ You’re not alone.

After two and a half decades as a pastor and coach, I’ve walked with thousands of women asking these same questions—wanting to stop feeling blocked from God’s best for their lives.

Real Stories from Real Women Like You:

Hearing God’s Voice

  • Emily looked for dramatic messages from heaven and ignored the quiet nudges and "gut feelings" in her spirit.

  • Rachel assumed God’s silence meant she was doing something wrong, when in reality she simply hadn’t learned how to recognize His subtle voice.

  • Debbie loved Jesus deeply, but when she tried to listen to God, the silence just felt awkward and distracting.

Fear

  • Anna sensed God nudging her toward leadership but worried she wasn’t good enough.

  • Beth avoided even asking God about her calling because she assumed it would be boring… or terrifying.

  • Lindy loved serving at church but felt anxious before every event, worried she wouldn’t meet expectations.

Busyness

  • Gloria lived at such a relentless pace that her “rest” felt more like crashing from exhaustion.

  • Sarah believed productivity was proof she was living faithfully, even though something inside her still felt unsettled and unfulfilled.

  • Jenna assumed “deny yourself” meant working harder for God instead of learning to abide with Him.

Sound familiar? If so, take a deep breath. These obstacles are real—but they are not permanent.

The part about busyness really hit me. I’ve been so “productive” that I didn’t even realize how disconnected I’ve been feeling from God. Thank you for putting words to something I couldn’t quite name. I’m excited (and honestly relieved) to start slowing down and learning how to actually hear His voice again. These devos are really timely for me. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing this with us! We're with you in that... hearing Him is such a game-changer in every way. I'm praying afresh that you're getting that "slow" you need, hearing God's voice more clearly, and experiencing the rest, guidance, and connection God has for you. 💛
