How to Follow God’s Will with Confidence: The Two-Part Truth You Might Be Missing

Updated: Jul 22

I get it—some days, life’s demands are like waves that won’t quit. 🌊

Years ago, I was tucked into the corner of a bustling coffee shop with my third baby strapped across my chest, my to-do list longer than my coffee receipt. I was trying to bounce my baby to sleep while working on my laptop—succeeding at neither. Overwhelmed doesn’t even begin to cover it. Thoughts raced through my mind:

💭 “Will God’s will unfold no matter what I do?”

💭 “Do these aimless, survival-mode days even count?”

💭 “Aren’t I close enough to what He wants?" #no10commandementsbroken

💭 “Life is hard—can’t He just be happy with me as-is?”

I was totally spinning my wheels... until it hit me:

Surviving the chaos wasn’t the goal. God actually had a specific plan—a ridiculously good one—just for me. And coasting wasn’t gonna cut it.

That realization changed everything.

I swapped out the endless striving (and passive waiting) for faith-fueled action. But let’s be real—you don’t just stumble from stuck to purpose by accident. 🙅🏼‍♀️

It took some legit inner work (shoutout to therapy and the Revival Life Signature Course 🙌🏼) to finally ditch the guessing game, quit waiting for clarity to just magically appear, and move with purpose.

As a recovering overachiever 🙋🏼‍♀️, learning that admitting my limits wasn’t failure—it was an invitation into the Father’s care—set me free.

Instead of guilt or FOMO keeping me on the hamster wheel, I finally found purposeful rest. And for the first time in a long time, I felt free to dream again.

Not in survival mode. Not hoping I’d trip into His will by accident. I realized I didn’t have to guess or strive to follow God’s will. I could partner with Him in confidence, knowing that God actually wants me to ask for more.

And let me tell you—that shift is everything.

God’s Will: A River With Two Currents 🏞️

Picture His will like a mighty, rushing river—always moving, always full of life.

🌊 God’s Unchangeable Will

It's the main current—steady, unstoppable, certain. These are the things that don’t change, no matter what. Jesus is coming back. Every knee will bow. The sun keeps rising. Love is the headline of eternity. ...The non-negotiable truths!

📖 See Acts 2:23, Matt. 26:42, James 1:18, Rev. 4:11, Heb. 8:8, Heb. 6:17

🚣 God’s Desired Will

This is where you come in. It’s the vibrant waters you get to steer within—the thrilling part where faith meets action. God longs to move for you and through you, so He invites you to co-labor with Him.

This is where you:

✨ Discover your calling

✨ Use your strengths in community

✨ Love boldly and step into impact

✨ Say YES to opportunities that move His kingdom forward

📖 See 1 Tim. 2:4, 2 Peter 3:9, Eph. 1:5, Eph. 1:1, 1 John 2:17, Phil. 2:13, Matt. 18:14

As Bill Johnson says:

"God can do everything on His own, by Himself, better than all of us combined. That’s not what He’s looking for. He designed for His will to be done through human agreement."

Navigating Your Part in His Will

🚣 Following God’s Desired Will is like kayaking in harmony with His grace for you.

It’s where deep joy, true adventure, and lasting purpose collide—where heaven’s mist hits your face, and you realize these desires were always His, made for His unfolding story.

📖 Psalm 37:4“Find your delight and true pleasure in the Lord, and He will give you what you desire the most.”

But here’s the thing: It’s easy to feel adrift, wondering if you’re paddling with the current or against it. And navigating these waters without the right tools? It’s like trying to row with a broken paddle and an outdated map (passed down from past experiences). 🗺️🤕

The good news?

🕊️ You’re not navigating this river alone.

🤝 Godly community is cheering you on.

💡 And the Holy Spirit is your expert guide.

Each surrendered YES builds momentum.

Each act of trust grows something unshakable inside you—confidence in His direction and your ability to move with His grace.

Your Invitation to Adventure

If you feel the waters pulling you toward something new, take heart.

This journey with Him will fill your soul in ways that aimless, busy days never could.

And it’s not some stiff, “be good and behave” kind of life. It’s wildly fulfilling and deeply personal. And it’s calling your name!

With God steering your story, every ripple, twist, and still moment is infused with purpose—crafted just for you.

So go ahead. Say YES to the uncharted waters of following His heart.

Start by telling Him—right now, in your own words.

Ask Him to show you the specific plans of freedom and purpose He’s written over every area of your life.

Tell Him you’re ready to stop coasting through the chaos.

That you want to steer with intention.

That you don’t want to miss the part of His will designed for you to move in.

And then? Keep your eyes open.

Because He promises it’s infinitely more than you could ask, think, or imagine. (Eph. 3:20) 🌊✨

Here’s to trusting the river of His will & discovering the adventure He designed just for you. 🌅
