How to Follow God’s Will with Confidence: The Two-Part Truth You Might Be Missing

Updated: Jan 9

I get it — some days feel like nonstop waves. 🌊

Needs. Noise. Decisions. Expectations. And no real place to land.

Years ago, I remember sitting in the corner of a crowded coffee shop with my third baby strapped to my chest, a laptop open, and a to-do list longer than my coffee receipt. I was trying to bounce my baby to sleep and get work done… and failing at both. I felt overwhelmed, foggy, and honestly a little guilty for even wondering:

💭 Does God’s will just happen no matter what I do?

💭 Do these survival-mode days even count?

💭 Am I close enough to what He wants? #no10commandementsbroken

💭 Can’t God just be okay with me as I am?

I was busy but stuck... spinning but not moving.

And then something clicked.

Surviving the chaos wasn’t the goal. God actually had a specific plan for me — and a ridiculously good one, at that. And coasting through life hoping I’d accidentally land in it… wasn’t how He designed it.

That realization changed everything.

I didn’t need to strive harder (tried that 😅) — or wait passively for clarity to fall out of the sky. I needed to partner with Him. And that meant learning to stop guessing, say more no's, and ask for the God-given desires He planted within me.

As a recovering overachiever 🙋🏼‍♀️, this was huge for me to learn. Admitting my limits wasn't failure... it was faith inviting me into the Father's care? Letting go of guilt and FOMO didn’t make me lazy — it gave me room to breathe?

And for the first time in a long time, I felt free to dream again.

Not in survival mode. Not afraid of choosing wrong. But confident that God actually wanted to lead me.

It took some legit inner work (shoutout to the Revival Life Signature Course 🙌🏼 and Spirit-led therapy) to finally ditch the guessing game, heal what held me back, and uncover His specific will for my life.

And let me tell you — that shift is everything.

God’s Will: A River With Two Currents 🏞️

I’ve come to picture God’s will like a moving river, always full of life.

🌊 God’s Unchangeable Will

There’s a steady, main current — the parts of His will that never change. They're constant and unshakable. Jesus is coming back. Every knee will bow. The sun keeps rising. Love is the headline of eternity. ...The non-negotiable truths!

📖 See Acts 2:23, Matt. 26:42, James 1:18, Rev. 4:11, Heb. 8:8, Heb. 6:17

🚣 God’s Specific Will For You

And then there are the smaller currents within the river. This is where your movement matters. Where trust meets action. Where God invites you to respond, choose, and participate in His desired, beneficial, best plan for you.

These smaller currents look like daily decisions, honest prayers, brave boundaries, big dreams, and Spirit-led YESes — ways God invites you to move with Him and partner Him as co-laborer.

This is where you:

✨ Discover & steer into your calling

✨ Use your strengths in community

✨ Say YES to opportunities that align with His heart

📖 See 1 Tim. 2:4, 2 Peter 3:9, Eph. 1:1-6, 1 John 2:17, Phil. 2:13, Matt. 18:14; 1 Cor 6:12

As Bill Johnson says:

"God can do everything on His own, by Himself, better than all of us combined. That’s not what He’s looking for. He designed for His will to be done through human agreement."

Navigating Your Part in His Will 🚣

Following God’s Desired Will is like kayaking with Him in the river of grace.

There's no pressure to force the river or create the current. Again, you’re learning how to move with it.

This is where deep joy, real adventure, and lasting purpose begin to overlap. Where you realize the desires stirring in you weren’t random or selfish — they were heaven's mist on your face, meant to unfold with Him.

“Find your delight and true pleasure in the Lord, and He will give you what you desire the most.” — Psalm 37:4

But here’s the honest part.

It’s easy to feel unsure. To wonder, “Am I paddling with God… or against Him?”

And when we try to navigate using old maps — past experiences, fear, pressure, people’s expectations — it can feel like rowing with a cracked paddle. Exhausting. Confusing. Discouraging. 🗺️🤕

Here’s the good news: you are not navigating alone.

🕊️ God is present and speaking 🤝 Community is meant to support you 💡 And the Holy Spirit is an incredibly good guide

You don’t need the whole map. You just need the next current.

Every surrendered yes builds momentum.

Every small step of trust strengthens your confidence that God knows how to lead you, and you know how to respond.

A 2-Min Video For You 🎥

Kandi and I recorded a short, honest conversation about this exact question:

“Does God actually have a specific will for my life?”

It’s just a couple of minutes — but it might bring biblical and personal clarity right where you are. 👇🏽

Your Invitation to Adventure 🌊

If you feel a gentle pull toward something new — take heart.

This journey will fulfill you in ways those busy but aimless days never could.

This life with God is not a rigid “be good and behave” existence. It’s alive. Personal. Spirit-led. And meant to feel like partnership.

Not by trying harder. Not by waiting longer.

But by learning how to move with Him — one honest step at a time.

With God steering the story, even the twists and quiet moments are infused with purpose — crafted specifically for you.

So go ahead. Say YES to moving with Him instead of coasting through chaos.

✨START HERE ✨

You can start right now, simply:

🙏🏾 “God, show me where You’re inviting me to move.”

🙏🏻 “Help me release fear and steer with intention.”

🙏🏼 “I don’t want to miss the part of Your will meant for me to participate in.”

And then — pay attention and keep saying YES.

Here’s what that actually looks like in real life:

  • notice where you feel peace and traction

  • ask God specific questions instead of bracing for outcomes

  • release fear-based hesitation and choose the next right step (daily)

  • trust that clarity grows as you move, not always before

  • reach out for trusted community or guided support that helps you discern with God

Because He promises to do more than you could ask, think, or imagine (Eph 3:20). ✨

Here’s to trusting the river of His will and discovering the adventure He designed just for you. 🌅
