My mentor recently had me ask Jesus about something that was weighing on me.
This time, when I closed my eyes to connect with Him, it wasn’t about words, verses, or visions.
I didn’t hear anything.
I just felt Jesus, full of compassion, quietly sitting with me.
And honestly? That was exactly what I needed.
Tears filled my eyes as His presence communicated care, comfort, and support my heart had been craving. I felt deeply seen. I stayed there in the moment with Him. And once the heaviness lifted, clarity came. I knew what to do. 💖💡
This time, God spoke through a feeling, which led to a deep knowing.
If I’d been stuck expecting Him to speak a certain way, I might’ve missed the very thing my heart needed most.
Here’s the reminder: God is always speaking—but He doesn’t use just one channel.
The Creator of the universe loves meeting us in real, everyday ways. Not just burning bushes—but quiet moments, gentle nudges, Scripture, imagination, thoughts, emotions, and deep inner knowing.
When you learn to recognize how God speaks to you, connection gets easier—and confidence grows.
So let’s break it down. Here are four common ways God speaks 👇🏽
1. SEEING 👀
Your imagination isn’t random—it’s a God-given canvas. Try this: imagine taking a bite of a lemon and notice how your mouth responds 🍋🤤. That inner “screen” is real. If you can picture a beach, a face, or a memory, that same place is where God can speak through images, metaphors, creation, dreams, and visions.
Biblical examples: Elisha (2 Kings 6:15–17), Joseph (Genesis 37)
Try this: Quiet your heart and ask God to show you something. Don’t force it. What do you notice? What does it stir? How might it reflect God’s nature or His best for your life—or even just your day?
2. HEARING 👂🏽
Sometimes God speaks as a thought, phrase, Scripture, friend's words, or lyric that lands differently. When your thoughts align with His Word, they can become a place where His voice actively (and regularly!) flows.
Biblical examples: Elijah (1 Kings 19), Samuel (1 Samuel 3)
Try this: Ask God for a word He wants to release—maybe a fruit of the Spirit—then pray it over someone. Think of a friend, or even try it for the person in the car next to you at a stoplight. “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” — James 5:16
3. KNOWING 💡
Sometimes… you just know.
This divine wisdom often shows up as a steady, grounded certainty—the Holy Spirit gently guiding you into truth (John 16:13). It can feel like a deep, unshakable conviction, nudge, intuition, or confidence about what to do next in your decisions or relationships.
Biblical examples: Peter’s revelation (Matthew 16:15-17), Solomon’s wisdom (1 Kings 3:5-14)
Try this: Think of a moment you followed a quiet inner knowing. How did this knowing influence your actions? Ask God to sharpen that awareness.
4. FEELING 💖
God also speaks through emotion and even physical sensation.
Compassion. Grief. Burden. Peace. These are often invitations to pray, act, or rest.
Our emotions can reflect God’s caring heart toward a situation or a person. And at times, physical sensations can point to where He’s initiating healing for someone—or making us aware of His presence in a tangible way.
Biblical examples: Jesus’ compassion (Matthew 9:36, 14:14-21, Mark 1:41, Luke 7:13), Nehemiah’s grief (Nehemiah 1:1-4), Daniel’s trembling (Daniel 10)
Try this: Notice strong emotions this week. Bring them to God and ask, “What are You inviting me into here?”
👉🏽 Which way sounds most like you—and which one feels like an invitation?
Curious about how you're uniquely wired to hear God?
Here’s the key 🔑
Hearing God doesn’t require a formula or a mountaintop retreat.
(It can include those—and I'm ALL about them—but it doesn’t require them.) 🏞️✨
It’s about tuning in with openness to the God who speaks through Scripture, creation, imagination, thoughts, intuition, and emotion.
Hearing God’s voice clearly is your birthright.
And the more you practice recognizing how He speaks, the more confident you become in everyday life.
I’m right here with you—leaning in, listening, and discovering new layers of intimacy with Him.
There’s adventure and fulfillment in the listening. 🗺️💛
To being attuned to His voice and heart,
Kandi
