Overcome Triggers with Jesus: How He Meets You In Your Most Human Moments

Updated: 2 days ago

Let’s be honest — just hearing the word trigger can make your shoulders rise to your ears. (Just me?) 😅

But here’s the truth I want you to hold from the very beginning:

Jesus cares about you right in the middle of those moments.

Not when you’ve calmed down or after you’ve figured it out. Right there in the swirl.

Triggers are those little pokes that land way deeper than they “should”:

🦶 Stepping on a Lego in the dark

🚪 Kid tantrum when you’re already stretched thin

🚽 Reaching for toilet paper that isn't there

🚦 Catching every red light when you're already late

🎉 The relentless noise and needs of your kids

🗣️ That one tone that makes your whole body stiffen

😒 That certain tone your partner uses that irks you

📪 Being left out

🖨️ Printer jam (the universal sanctification test)

Honestly, writing this list takes me back to my first job in a printshop — every jam brings déjà vu. Except now add rushing out the door… and kid chaos… and perimenopause. 😬😮‍💨

Triggers are never just about the Lego. They’re about the emotional avalanche under the surface.

Sometimes it feels like your armor is cracked or missing entirely… Like at any moment, you might just — poke, poke — fall apart? 🤺

Some moments don’t feel like a tiny tap — they feel like the whole trigger just bulldozes right through you. 🧱

Goodbye peace… goodbye protection… hello overwhelm. ⛑️

Then doubts usually rush in:

💭 “Where did my strength go?

💭 Can I handle this?

💭 Does what I do even matter?”

But hear me: You haven’t lost your armor.

What you’re feeling is simply a  chink in your armor — one that needs gentleness, repair, and renewal.

Those chinks may be signs of battles fought and maintenance skipped. But they're spots ripe for healing and growth, ready to forge a stronger you. ⚔️

They aren’t failures. They’re invitations.

🌿 Invitations to Healing and Transformation

Here’s the pattern I see in people everywhere — and in my own story:

Good News: You’re not weak, dramatic, or “too much.”

Hard News: You’re carrying unprocessed pain, unmet needs, or old memories your body still remembers.

Really Good News: Jesus meets you right there with empathy, clarity, and healing.

Many of us retreat to our metaphorical caves — overwhelmed, unsure how to process what’s rising — and get stuck there.

But healing doesn’t require a five-year plan and 27 podcasts.

It starts with one honest moment with Jesus. And then the next one.

Because the best way to overcome triggers with Jesus is not to run from them, but to lean into them with Him beside you.

🌿 What Jesus Actually Does in Triggering Moments

1. Jesus is your Healer

He doesn’t shame you or tell you to “get over it.”

He sits beside you, listens, and gently reveals what’s under the reaction.

Most “overreactions” aren’t overreactions — they’re old wounds asking for attention.

Jesus mends armor. He soothes the places you feel thin. He restores strength from the inside out. He’s tuned into every need and endlessly present.

“Come to Me… and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

👉🏽 Your needs matter to Him. Your desires matter to Him. You matter to Him.

2. Jesus is your Coach 💪🏾

We’re used to feeling helpless under pressure. Jesus shifts that.

He doesn’t remove every struggle (though He totally could, and one day will 🥹) or do everything for you — He strengthens you to walk through them with confidence.

Like an amazing coach, He reminds you:

You are capable. You are equipped. You carry spiritual authority. You're not a victim — you’re victorious in Him. 🎯

This isn’t hype. It's your identity in Christ. And it's His delight to draw your identity out.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13

👉🏽 He believes in your strength and potential.

3. Jesus is your Partner 🫱🏾‍🫲🏼

You’re not a project. You’re a co-heir and co-laborer. You’re someone He entrusts with His power and presence.

Breakthrough isn’t only something He does for you — it’s something He cultivates through you (even in your own mind and emotions).

“God with us” means He’s close. “Christ in me” means you have power. ⚡

Sometimes the breakthrough you’re waiting on is already inside you—His whisper just needs to unlock the strategies, strength, and solutions you didn’t realize were there.

“For we are His workmanship…created in Christ Jesus for good works. — Ephesians 2:10

👉🏽 He empowers you to release breakthrough.

🌿 Final Encouragement

You’re not losing your armor. You're learning how to care for it.

Jesus doesn’t shame your sensitivity — He shepherds it.

He doesn’t minimize your triggers — He redeems them.

He doesn’t expect you to just “toughen up” — He walks you into healing.

With Him, no crack is too small and no moment is too messy.

When you choose to meet Him in the trigger, you’ll find deep connection, clarity, and identity restored.

He reminds you of your strength, your worth, your agency, and your purpose.

And He is committed—fully—to your calling and your growth.

🛡️ It’s time to fix your armor and prevent future chinks.

And you don’t have to face any of it alone.
