🌟 Stop Shrinking & Step Into God’s Purpose

Updated: Sep 12

When I was in my twenties, I thought shrinking was holy.

I hung up my modeling heels—even though God was using me to carry His presence and voice across the globe.

But my church community called beauty “vanity” and ambition “selfish.” They took “more of Him, less of me” to mean my face couldn’t be seen and my gifts couldn’t be celebrated.

So I wore baggy clothes, took the “safe” desk job, and tried to disappear—thinking that was pleasing God.

But really? I was writing myself out of my own story.

🙋🏼‍♀️ Ever done that?

— Hid in the shadows because you thought humility meant disappearing?

— Put your desires last because you thought they didn’t matter?

— Believed self-discovery was selfish?

But that’s not humility—it’s fear in a churchy outfit.

📖 What the Bible Shows Us

Let’s look at Peter.

He went from fisherman to the guy preaching at Pentecost to thousands.

But before the breakthrough? He denied Jesus three times, swore he didn’t even know Him, and went back to his boats (John 21).

That wasn’t humility—it was shrinking so far he denied the One who had just called him out of the boat.

But what did Jesus do? He met Peter right there on the shore. Cooked him breakfast. And then restored him, three times over.

“Feed my sheep. Take care of my people. Follow me.”

Translation: Peter, I’m not done with you. Stop hiding. Get back in the game.

And Peter did. He didn’t go back to quiet fishing. He stood up bold, blazing with the Spirit—and 3,000 people got saved in a day.

The man who shrank became the man who shook the world. 🔥

💥 Here’s the Revelation

Jesus doesn’t need you to shrink. He needs you to shine.

— He said you are the light of the world (Matt. 5:14).

— He gave you authority to trample the enemy (Luke 10:19).

— He handed you the Great Commission before He ascended (Matt. 28:19).

If He trusted Peter after a colossal failure, He trusts you too.

When you stop shrinking to fit someone else's version of 'holy' and start shining in how He made you—you finally step into God’s purpose, fully and boldly.

Find Your People 🤝 Choose 1–2 trusted mentors or friends where you can drop the mask, let yourself be known, and practice using your voice. Healing and courage multiply in safe spaces.

Speak Truth in the Mirror 👏🏼 Declare what Jesus says about you. Give your spirit the pep-talk and high five it needs: “I am chosen. I am equipped. I am enough—because He says so.”

Align in Prayer 🙏🏼 No polished prayers required. Spill the raw truth about your fears and dreams. God’s not rolling His eyes—He delights that you’re being real and trusting Him with the hard parts.

Allow Yourself to Dream 🌈 Your best ideas might be God-given desires. Give them a voice. Explore them with Him and your community.

Take One Bold Step 🚀 Email the person. Apply for the role. Lead the study. Post the idea. Don’t wait until you feel “ready.” Your 'YES' is the qualifier—His Spirit fills the gap.

🌱 Here’s the Promise

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me—Philippians 4:13

This isn’t about you being God’s puppet. It’s about Christ infusing you with strength.

This was always His plan—right before He ascended, Jesus handed His mission to us because He trusts us to carry His authority forward. 💥

He did not say…

🚫 “God can do all things through me.”

🚫 “Celebrating who I made you is selfish.”

🚫 "The less seen and more miserable you feel, the holier it must be."

🚫 “I’m the only light, so dim down and disappear.” 😬

The truth is...

🎉 God delights when you lean on His strength.

🌈 Spirit-led desires open doors to divine adventures.

💪🏾 Naming your strengths doesn’t puff you up—it glorifies Him.

🌬️ The mind set on the Spirit brings life and peace, not self-erasure (Romans 8:6).

So stop sidelining yourself. He’s not asking you to shrink so He can shine—He’s asking you to partner with Him. His strength shows up in your yes.

Gurrrrl, you’re not a background character. You’re the light of the world. (Matt. 5:14). Step out of the shadows and carry His glory into every room you walk into! 🌟

👉🏼 So Here’s Your Move Today:

Name one area where you’ve been shrinking.

Then pray: “Jesus, restore me like Peter. I say yes to shining.”

Because when you step out bold, you don’t just live your story. You unleash His.

Let’s do it! 💛
