Trusting God in Uncertainty: Where Is God's Will When Life Takes an Unexpected Turn?

Updated: Jul 22

Ever feel like you're navigating God's will with a GPS that just keeps recalculating, leaving you wondering which way to go next?

🙋🏼‍♀️ Right. there. withyou. Life’s twists can get confusing REAL quick.

Here's a time when I learned more about trusting God in uncertainty:

When my family of four returned from a two-week trip to find our home and all our belongings ruined by mold, life’s rerouting wheel spun for us. 🍭

Then we discovered the next day we were, surprise – pregnant! – there was that wheel again. 🎡 🙃

As we sadly hauled nearly everything to the dump, God was lining up miracles: a furnished beachfront condo (two months, for free) from a generous church family, then an upgraded below-market rental from a realtor friend. Friends rallied with support and essentials, and through it all, the kids, jobs, and ministry stayed afloat. It turned into a wild, faith-packed adventure–overflowing with provision and radical generosity. 🙌🏼

Each day, Jesus gently nudged me out of anxiety and into wonder. 💥

That season taught me this: when life takes an unexpected turn, God’s will isn’t missing—it’s moving in ways we couldn't plan.

It may feel like your GPS is off, but God’s had the map since before you were born.

His ways are higher. And sometimes the detour is where the miracles live. Sometimes the re-route is what launches you into purpose.

Remember: You're not just a part of God’s plan—you ARE the plan.

Christ-in-you is His plan for bringing heaven to earth.

Even those shadowy “shortcut” detours? He’s flipping them for your good, guiding you back to wholeness, caring deeply for your every need.

And with the same power that raised Jesus from the dead living inside you—hello, God of the Impossible—what’s really going to stop you? 💪

"We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose." — Romans 8:28

That includes:

  • Health challenges

  • Financial strain

  • Career confusion

  • Relationship breakdowns

  • Parenting chaos

None of it is too messy for God to work with. He’s not just helping you survive—He’s shaping you for more.

God’s will is always for your healing and wholeness. While He works miracles, He also uses every delay, curveball, and question to deepen your faith, dissolve your fears, and mature you in freedom. He's helping you overcome while building your resilience—a key skill to thrive in seeming impossible situations.

Rest assured, though, God's plan for you is good, pleasing, and prosperous (Jer 29:11). What's the saying, "if it ain't good He's not done"...

So if you're wondering what to do when life takes an unexpected turn...

Here are four ways to anchor your heart:

1. Pray for Perception 🧭 Ask God to help you see what He’s doing in the chaos—not just deliver you from it.

2. Stay in Scripture 📖 When life feels unclear, God’s Word is a lamp to your feet. Make space daily to let Him highlight what you need to hear. It’s usually right on time.

3. Reflect on His Faithfulness ✨ Think back to moments God has come through—for you, for others, even in Scripture. Let it fuel your faith for this moment. Knowing His true nature, that He's good, eager, and willing, makes all the difference.

4. Don’t Isolate—Connect 🤝 Ask for help. Share your struggle. Lean into a community that lifts you up. Opening up takes courage, but every time I’ve stepped out in vulnerability, I’ve experienced the punchiest breakthroughs, practical wisdom, and healing love from being known and seen. God loves speaking through His trusted people!

If you're in a season of delay, loss, or unknowns, know this: you’re not off track.

(In fact, you might want to listen to one of my favorite messages about it:

God’s will doesn’t break with your plans—it builds through your surrender. And you, my friend, are still very much in the center of His heart.

If you feel like your GPS is glitching, simply pray this today:

“Jesus, I trust You in the detour. Even when I don’t see it, I believe You’re guiding me. Help me walk with faith and stay open to the new thing You’re doing in me.”

Keep showing up. Keep surrendering. Because breakthrough often hides in the detour—and the adventure of walking with God is never off course. 🚗✨

You’re not just in His story. You are His strategy.

With you in the plot twists,

Kelsi
