When God-Given Desires Don’t Look Holy Yet — But Still Are

Okay, let’s get real for a sec. 😂
When my half-Mexican hubby did a double take as our towheaded blondie daughter Charity popped into the world, we lost it. Like—“Whose child is this?!” kind of laughter.
That surprise baby barely looked like him at first… but give it time? She’s basically his mini-me now—same sparkly eyes, same mischievous grin, same “let’s stir it up” energy. 🙌🏼
Here’s the thing: sometimes it takes a minute for the evidence of who we belong to to show. Desires are the same way—they’re born looking different (like seeds) than what they’ll become. 💫
📖 Jesus Said It Straight
“Abide in Me, and I in you... If you abide in Me, and My [rhema] words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. My Father is glorified by this: that you bear much fruit and show yourselves to be My disciples.” — John 15:4-5, 7-8
Translation? When Jesus' voice (His rhema word) lives inside you—when His word isn’t just read but received—your desires start sounding like heaven. And fruit follows.
Not fake fruit. Not “forced-to-be-holy” fruit.
But real, undeniable, Spirit-grown fruit. 🍇🔥
🚨 The Lie We Swallow
Too often, the church has made us suspicious of our own desires.
We’ve believed:
💭 “If I want it, it must not be God.”
💭 “The more miserable I feel, the more spiritual I am.”
💭 “Holiness = surpression." 😳
But girl—look at the Bible:
Hannah (1 Samuel 1): Her deep desire for a child wasn’t selfish—it was sacred. When she poured it out honestly before God, He answered, and Samuel’s life shaped a nation. Your surrendered desires can carry generational impact.
Caleb (Numbers 13–14, Joshua 14): He longed for the promised land. While others shrank back in fear, Caleb’s bold desire to see God’s promise fulfilled kept him believing, against all odds. God celebrates brave desires rooted in His promises.
Nehemiah (Nehemiah 1–2): His heartbreak over Jerusalem’s broken walls wasn’t just emotion—it was a holy burden. That ache turned into a blueprint, and his obedience sparked revival. Sometimes the thing that breaks your heart is the very thing God’s inviting you to build.
Peter (John 13, 21, Acts 2): He burned to be great in the Kingdom—bold, outspoken, always the first to move. His intensity sometimes got messy, but Jesus refined it. Through washing his feet, restoring his heart, and filling him with the Spirit, Jesus turned Peter’s raw ambition into authority anchored in love. The same fire that once made him impulsive became the courage that launched the Church and fueled revival. 🔥
Even Jesus was accused by the “holiness police.” The Pharisees couldn’t handle a Messiah who enjoyed meals, laughed with sinners, turned water into wine, and moved with messy compassion instead of rigid control. So they called Him a drunk, a glutton, even demon-possessed—because His desires and methods didn’t fit their polished version of holy.
Like them, God uses your attention, hunger, desires, and even your frustrations and heartaches to draw you into your destiny.
And sometimes? The desires that feel least “holy” are the ones God’s preparing to harness for glory.
💥 When His Word Meets Your Desire
When God's rhema word connects with your God-given dreams, miracles start moving. ✨ That’s heaven breathing on what’s inside you—turning a seed into fruit.
When those desires come alive, they don’t just bless your life—they reveal who you belong to. 🌟
As you stay rooted in His love and grow in intimacy with God, your desires mature. They get clearer. Stronger. Brighter. You stop trying to cram your dreams into a mold of “God’s will,” and start letting His presence refine and expand them.
Ambition gets purified, hope rises, and new possibilities take root. 🌱
Here’s the best part: you don’t have to force a thing. SO much happens beneath the surface when you simply abide. Like seeds in soil, branches in vine, even babies in wombs—heaven’s forming something beautiful in you, even when it looks like nothing’s happening. 🤰🏻
Your main job? Stay connected to Jesus. Let His words take root, shape your choices, and guide your flow.
When your life and dreams start carrying His love, it’s proof you’re walking as His disciple. 💫
🛠️ How to Abide and Let Desires Come Alive
📖 Read the Word Until It Reads You
I love soaking in God's Word because it connects me to God's heart, life-changing revelation, and practical wisdom for every challenge I'm facing. Find a promise that hits your season. Write it. Say it out loud. Ask, “Jesus, what do You want to show me here?”
🙏🏼 Pray Like It’s Real Life
You have full permission to drop the polished lines. If you’re scared or mad, say it. If you’re hopeful, proclaim it aloud. The Psalms prove that God can handle your full heart. Bring your honesty and trust that, instead of disappointment, you'll be met with a kind, wise Father who knows exactly what you need (and how to get you there).
🍇 Name the Desire and Let God Lead It
Write down what’s stirring in you—the dreams and longings that just won’t quiet down. Then bring it to God and ask, “What do You want to do with this, Lord?”
God’s guidance shows up through life and peace (Romans 8:6), not fear, guilt, or striving. Every desire starts as a seed. Some are ready to bloom, some need pruning, and some just need time in the soil of surrender. You don’t have to figure out if it’s “holy enough.” Just voice it and trust the Gardener to bring the right fruit in the right season. 🍇
🫱🏽🫲🏾 Find Your People
We're better together! Don’t try to discern your future alone. Share your desires with 1–2 faith-filled friends who remind you who you are in Christ. The right voices will call out the gold in you.
👏🏼 Speak to Yourself Like Jesus Would
Yes, in the mirror. “I am chosen. I am equipped. I’m not behind—I’m becoming.” Watch your nervous system catch up to the truth.
🚀 Take One Bold Step
Don’t wait until you “feel ready.” Apply for the role, send the email, pitch the idea, share the post. Your yes activates heaven.
🔥 'Cause Dreaming Runs In the Family
God never asked you to erase your desires.
He asked you to abide—so He can turn your God-given desires into Kingdom fruit of destiny.
Your life—your character, your dreams, your everyday choices—become living proof that you belong to Him.
Just like my daughter reflects her daddy, you were made to reflect your Father. 💫 And your God-given dreams do the same—they’re expressions of your union with Him, taking shape in the world as you co-labor together.
When you stop shrinking and start shining, the world gets a front-row seat to His glory.
⚡ Girl, you don’t need to force anything. You just need to abide, trust, and move in faith.
Your desires aren’t the problem—they’re the proof of your union with Him. 💕
So here's that permission:
💭 What’s one desire God’s been highlighting—and how can you partner with His momentum this week?
Let’s go!
