How to Overcome FOMO with God’s Peace and Truth

Updated: Apr 24

Let’s talk about something that took me out a few years ago: FOMO. 🌳

Yep. The fear of missing out. It sounds small, but guuurrrl... it led me straight into burnout. 😵‍💫

I was running from dinner-on-the-go to ministry events, juggling two jobs, homeschooling my three boys, and saying yes to serve at every church gathering—chasing connection, craving revival, and holding onto this deep belief that if I just kept showing up, something powerful would break through. I was hungry to be where God was moving. But in the process, I stopped making space to actually breathe. Every morning, I woke up already feeling behind—terrified that slowing down meant missing out.

And that’s when God whispered this to my heart:

“Kelsi, your heart to serve is beautiful—but not everything you’re doing is what I’ve asked of you. That's why you're exhausted and not seeing the fruit...”

Ooooh man. I let that sink in. And it was the start of a whole new chapter.

Through the Revival Life Signature Course, good therapy, and powerful, honest moments with Jesus, I finally found clarity, peace, and the kind of joy that doesn’t disappear just because I slow down. 🙌🏼💗

Once I paused long enough to catch a break, I realized how much I was reacting to pressure, expectations, and fear.

Here’s the thing I had to face: God never designed us to live in reaction mode. You’re not a victim to your schedule. Or your circumstances. Or the comparison trap that tells you everyone else is doing it better.

You’re a child of God. More than a conqueror. Created to live with intention, peace, and power! That’s why learning to overcome FOMO with God’s peace and truth is so freeing—it shifts your identity from performance to peace.

So today, let’s dig into what’s really going on when FOMO creeps in—and how to shut it down with truth, strategy, and a whole lot of freedom.👇🏼

🪵 The Roots: What's Actually Underneath Your FOMO?

It’s not just fear of missing fun or opportunities. It’s that sneaky little voice saying...

💭 “You’re falling behind.”

💭 “You’re not doing enough.”

💭 “Everyone else is doing it better.”

Ugh. Been there. FOMO shows up when we start:

🤳🏼 Gluing ourselves to screens so we don’t “miss anything”

🎢 Riding the emotional rollercoaster of comparison

🥉 Doubting our purpose & belonging, wondering if our sacrifices even matter

It whispers scarcity in our ears... has envy written all over it... and makes our souls anxious and tired.

But here’s the truth: God’s not holding out on you. He’s not saving His best for someone else. He’s inviting youinto a life of fullness, peace, and deep joy—right where you are. 💥

💌 God’s Invitation > Everyone Else's Highlight Reel

God’s voice doesn’t pressure or tear you down to get you to perform. It won’t guilt you into overcommitting or leave you feeling small and behind.

He’s whispering:

✨ You’re chosen.

✨ You’re called.

✨ You’re already equipped.

✨ You’re loved—before you lift a finger.

His invitation isn’t a ladder to climb, a watered-down version of someone else’s life, or just another thing to add to your list—it’s a whole new way to live. No striving for clarity. No performing for connection. 🙅🏼‍♀️

It’s your VIP pass out of the FOMO frenzy—leading you away from pressure and into peace. Out of striving and into rest. Out of the blur of “what ifs” and into a clear, joy-filled path that’s tailor-made just for you.

You don’t have to say yes to everything to be in alignment with God’s will. You just need to say yes to Him.

So when you allow Him to blow away the confusion… what’s He saying?

When you know your God-given YES, the “no’s” get a whole lot easier. (Psst... this is a huge part of what we walk through in the Signature Course.) The distractions lose their grip. Your soul exhales. And suddenly, you realize… this is what your heart’s been craving all along. 💗

God’s calling on your life is personal and powerful—handwritten with love, full of promise, and worth choosing on purpose. Those longings to live fully, laugh hard, and love big? That’s Him, inviting you into more!

Because in His presence is fullness of joy. And if you’re not feeling that yet, He’s inviting you closer.

You’re not being left behind. You’re being called in—to the beautiful, fully-alive adventure He made just for you!

🤹🏻‍♀️ Remember Mary and Martha?

Martha was spinning in stress—trying to do all the right things, hold it all together, and make everything look perfect for Jesus. (Been there, right?) Meanwhile, Mary sat herself down and soaked up every word He spoke. Probably feeling her own version of FOMO, she tried pulling Mary into the whirlwind with her.

And Jesus gently told Martha,

“Mary has chosen what is better.”

Not because Martha was wrong for working—but because she was anxious and distracted while peace was sitting right in front of her.

Jesus is still inviting us to choose the better thing: A life anchored in His voice, His pace, and His love. 💛

Because in His Kingdom, success isn’t measured by how much you do. It’s measured by how deeply you love, how closely you listen, and how boldly you follow. “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you.” — Matthew 6:33

🪓 5 Key Strategies to Beat FOMO

1️⃣ Cultivate Gratitude: Start and end your day by naming what you’re thankful for. Gratitude drowns out the noise and centers your soul in truth. It reminds you of God's faithfulness and opens your heart to the beauty of what’s next.

2️⃣ Limit Screen Time: Unplug to tune in. Try a no-phone hour at dinner, a tech-free Sunday, or limit your social scrolling to a specific time window. These intentional pauses help you lift your eyes from the screen to the life God’s given you, and it’s a gift to your mental health, too. 👍🏼

3️⃣ Seek Real Connection: Make time for soul-feeding friendships. Pray together. Laugh loud. Be real. True connection quiets the comparison and fills your heart with what matters.

4️⃣ Serve Others: Look outward. Send that text. Drop off the coffee. Speak life. Serving reminds you you’re here for a reason—and it shifts your eyes from lack to love. What small act can you do this week to show someone they matter?

5️⃣ Clarify Your YES: Ask God: “What are you dreaming for me?" and "What’s my YES in this season?” When you know what you’re meant to carry, you can stop picking up what was never yours. 🐙 (This is what the Revival Life’s Signature Course is all about—we're here to help you get clear.)

God’s plan for your life is as unique as you are. No one else’s timeline. No one else’s calling. Just the story He’s writing with you—full of breakthrough, beauty, significance, and joy.

So when FOMO sneaks in next time? Let it spark this reminder: You’re not falling behind. Slowing down with God is a sure way to speed up, in all honesty. And I promise you, His calling on your life (which comes with rest, provision, & miracles) is the best adventure you don’t want to miss.

He’s not in a rush. He’s just waiting for your yes, and He’s already prepared the next step. 🤍

Here's to embracing the beautiful, grounded, joy-soaked life He has for you!
